Unfortunately many of the package tours that tourists take to Egypt don`t give people the opportunity to see what life for the "normal" people in Egypt is really like. I was fortunate to have made a contact with a local taxi driver in Luxor called Hamdi, through a friend in England who had met him some years ago. Apart from being a very nice and reliable taxi driver he gave me the opportunity to see a glimpse of what village life is like in Egypt. Below are some photographs that I took when I went to Hamdi`s village.

If anyone is thinking of going on a holiday to Luxor and would like to have the oportunity not only to see many of the usual tourist sites but also some places that only the local people really know, maybe you would consider hiring Hamdi - his email is:- hisam2002@yahoo.com. His rates were very reasonable, he was always very polite and helpful and also reliable. He can take you to places in and around Luxor as well as further afield, including trips to Abydos, Dendera, Cairo, Hurgada and Aswan. He arranged for some great guides to accompany us on some trips that I wanted more information about which was a brilliant way to see places. Having a personal guide on a one to one basis was so much better than being one of thirty or so in a coach party.
